Sketching Tuscany

with Enid Romanek

May 14-20, 2001

Enid Romanek, one of the Washington, D.C. area's most popular artists, best known for watercolor prints of national and neighborhood landmarks, will guide you through an artistic odyssey of Tuscan landscape and architecture using a variety of pencil and ink tools. Daily instruction will emphasize selecting and composing the picture, exploring perspective, conveying mood with line and tone, strengthening rendering skills and developing one's own style, In the workshop you will go from quick sketch to more elaborate drawings to enhancing your work with watercolor. This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience.

Excursions to nearby medieval and Renaissance towns complement and expand the art instruction. As part of your introduction to the cultural treasures of this region, you will stay at Colombaiolo, a centuries-old majestic farmhouse set on a spectacular estate of wheat fields and olive groves. To enhance your personal connection with the landscape, the painting, and Tuscany, enrollment is limited to eight people.
